White Varsity Finishes The Season Strong!

Posted: Thursday, November 10th, 2011  By: Mr. Mitchell

White Varsity soccer had its final game of the 2011 season at the SportsZone in Trumbull.   Playing our first game on an indoor field, we quickly adjusted to the speed of turf and came out firing against a good GFA squad.   We tallied an early goal and played some of our best defense keeping the score at 1-0 in the first half.  Our defense was so strong, that GFA was held to no shots in the first half.  This stellar defense was led by eighth graders Erin, Justin and Jaedan as well as seventh graders Jace and Paul.

In the second half, outstanding ball movement and short, quick passes led our team to tally 3 more goals and take a commanding 4-0 lead.   We finished the game by holding GFA again to no shots in the second half and recording our first shutout of the season.   The game ended with a convincing 4-0 victory and a solid finish to another strong White Varsity season.  Our final record was 3-1-1.  Coach Mitchell and Coach B want to thank all the players of the White Varsity squad for their commitment and hard work to making this a successful season!

Green Soccer V GFA

The Green Varsity Soccer Team had a very competitive match against GFA.  They fell short of victory but not excitement as they persevered through to the last seconds of both halves. They scored with one minute on the clock in both halves to put the score within one point and almost converted with 15 seconds left in the game. They led a valiant effort. It was simply inspiring to witness their winning spirit in full drive. Congratulations to all for an amazing team effort!

White Soccer Plays a Tough One on the Road!

Coming off of a convincing home win last week, the White Varsity squad was anxious to extend their winning streak against an always tough Montessori Wilton team.  Both teams opened with strong offense as well as stellar defense that proved to be a key component in this well played game by both teams.  As the ball was played forward, a Montessori defender was there to shut down our offense.  Outstanding goal keeping by eighth grader Sisso kept Montessori off the board until late in the first half when a quick pass caught our defense off guard and the first goal was tallied.   At the half, we trailed 1-0.

After an intense half-time speech by Coach B and Coach Mitchell, the team was eager to get back on the field, get that equalizer and take the lead.  Both teams traded fouls, shots on goal and tough defense.  Early in the second half, a beautiful free kick from the top of the eighteen yard box sailed into the upper left corner of the goal and tied the game.  The final twenty minutes were intense for both sides, but neither team was able to take the lead and the game ended in a well played 1-1 tie.  Congratulations to the White Varsity squad for a hard fought tie.  We look forward to our home game tomorrow where we face off against a Greenwich Catholic squad and look to avenge our early season loss to them.

White Soccer Wins First on Field of Dreams!

White Varsity Soccer played their first game on the new natural turf field.  The team was fired up and wanted to play an excellent game in front of the home crowd and they certainly didn’t disappoint.  Strong offense by Michael, James, Danny and Ian led to an early 4-0 lead at the half.  The second half proved to be more strong offense with seventh graders Brandon and Michael each tallying another goal to grow the lead to 6-0.  New Canaan Country School tallied a goal late in the second half to pull to 6-1, but the defense proved too strong and kept the ball out of the home half for most of the second.  Outstanding goalkeeping and leadership by 8th grader Sisso helped keep this game out of the hands of our opponent.   The team was proud of their first home victory on the new field and hope to tally many more!
