The Green Varsity Soccer team faced one of their strongest competitors ever and certainly rose to the occasion. They displayed determination, strong team play and a never quit attitude as they battled St. Aloysius to the final whistle. They were truly inspirational. Kailey and Alex anchored our defense, while Christopher came to the rescue in goal after Patrick was injured. Jae, Jackson, Olivia and Ben led our offense as they scored 5 goals. Congratulations “Green” on such a well played game!

White Soccer Wins on the Road!

Posted: Thursday, October 13th, 2011  By: Mr. Mitchell

Coming off a tough loss to a good Greenwich Catholic squad the week before, the White Varsity soccer team was hungry for a win. We came out shooting early in the game and tallied our first goal in the first five minutes. Continual strong play in the first half and solid defense led to a 4-0 lead at the half.   The difference in the second half proved to be goalkeeping led by eighth grader Sisso who made save after save and managed to turn away Fairfield Country Day shot after shot.   Solid play by fellow eighth graders Erin, Jaeden, Justin and Danny proved to be too much for the Country Day squad and Unquowa came out on top by a final of 5-2.   Overall, it was our best game of the season and we look forward to next week as well look to continue our winning ways!

Unquowa Vs Greenwich Catholic

The Unquowa tennis team had another successful well matched performance against Greenwich Catholic. Every player had a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of challenging themselves throughout the match to a win. Tennis is a sport that allows a player to improve their stroke by stroke decision and their active nervousness. Players learn to control skill and mindset and make it through the ups and down of a singular set regardless of their playing level.  Congratulations to Jonathan, Winston, James, Michael, Abbie, Alex, Jackson and Michael B for your singles and doubles success.

The Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team played their best game of the season against a strong New Canaan Country School squad. Abby had a hat trick and Olivia scored her first goal of the season. Keelin and Danielle led our defense and Brienne had another strong game in goal. It has been such a pleasure to witness the girls hard work and development this season. Also, I would like to thank the girls for representing our school and themselves so well. I can always count on their poise, sportsmanship and a  strong competitive effort. Finally, to all of our departing eighth grade girls, it has been our honor and pleasure to coach you!

Unquowa Starts the Tennis Season!

Posted: Thursday, April 28th, 2011  By: Mrs. Burton

The Unquowa Tennis team had its first tennis match of the season against The King School.  Although they were swept by the more experienced players of the King School, a great experience was had by all.  Many of our players are in the developmental stage of skill sets and match play yet they were able to show great heart, enthusiasm and athleticism for the game. A  perfectly sunny day always relieves the stress as perfect attitudes and sportsmanship took the courts. Players from both teams supported, instructed and self managed their matches and calls and showed grace in the process.  Congratulations to Jonathan, Andrew, Abbie, Winston, Jackson, Michael, Michael R and James!

Boys’ Lacrosse loses a tough one!

Posted: Tuesday, April 26th, 2011  By: Mr. Mitchell

After a month of practices and a few rain outs, the boys’ lacrosse team opened their 2011 season with a tough loss to a talented GFA squad.   The boys came out playing aggressive defense and forced GFA to work the ball and limited them to only a few shots in the opening quarter.  Eighth grader Paul, playing in his first game as a goalie, made some impressive saves and showed great potential for things to come.   He even made a bounce save that looked out of reach.   Our long pole defense made up of seventh graders Danny and Mark, and sixth grader Paul anchored the backfield for most of the game.   Everyone on the team got some valuable playing time today.  The score was close till the final minutes before GFA racked up 4 quick goals to pull away and win by a final of 8-1.  Coach Mitchell and Coach Lawrence are proud of the boys’ hard work and look forward to a win in the next game this Thursday against Ridgefield Academy.
