Fall Sports’ Awards Presentation

On Tuesday, December 2 all of our students and parents met in the gym to celebrate our fall sports season and we had a ball. Our soccer teams finished with an undefeated season for the second straight year and our field hockey team was one our most determined squads ever.  Trophies were awarded and we reminisced about all of our achievements. This year, The Unquowa  School Spirit Trophy was awarded to eighth graders, Peta-Gay and Kai. Also, The Team Spirit Award was awarded to the girls field hockey team. Great job, girls! Finally we would like to say thanks to all of our parents for cheering us on. What great fans you all are! We look forward to seeing you at all the basketball games this winter.

Congratulations to the Green Varsity Soccer Team for an amazing season. They closed with a win against St. Luke’s undefeated and competitive team. Our players were simply fearless and focused. They had an exciting one point win in the last minute when Captains Danny and Justin closed with a pressing winning goal that broke the tie. This is a selfless and disciplined team, and we are proud of every contribution from every player. They consistently exhibited sportsmanship throughout the season. James. Paul, Spencer, Erin, Brienne, Keelin, Hannah, Jonathan, Victoria - and an amazing performance from our goalie Parker -  sealed the successful season.

White Soccer pulls out the victory against Fraser Woods!

Posted: Sunday, November 8th, 2009  By: Mr. Mitchell

White soccer faced a tough and gritty Fraser Woods team that battled to the very end.   The game began with a quick goal by seventh grader, Andrew.   Both teams battled for possession from there.  The ball was in both offensive areas throughout the remainder of the half.   Strong defensive play by eighth graders Mackenzie, Marc Thomas, and Davis as well as seventh grader Josh, kept Fraser Woods off the board in the first half.

The second half started out with a long line drive shot from eighth grader Matt that made the lead 2-0.  Fraser Woods struck back with a soft floater that sailed just over the fingertips of goalie, eighth grader Bailey.   Unquowa went back on the charge and got another tally from eighth grader Matt making it 3-1.   In the final minutes of the game, Fraser Woods put on a strong offensive charge and scored with 1 second left to make the final score 3-2 in favor of Unquowa.  White team’s record is now 5-0-2.  Congrats on another victory!

JV Soccer wins a close one !

The JV Soccer team (grades 3 and 4) had an impressive win over a strong Fraser Woods Team. It is truly difficult to hold back a smile as we watch our youngest Unquowa soccer representatives pass selflessly and execute effectively  both on offense and defense. They cheer each other on and have learned early that everyone counts. They won the nail biter 4-3 and defended the last minute charge from Fraser Woods. Thank you to all the parents who came to offer their support.

The Unquowa Green Team (grades 5 and 6) had a wonderful victory over the competitive Eagle Hill team. They continue to show strong fundamentals during game play and, most importantly, team work and sportsmanship. Although the score was decisive, everyone contributed to the team’s success.  We applaud the defensive work of Danny and Justin, while the offensive play of James, Ian, Sisso, Paul, Tristan, Colby, Sydnee and others continue to shine. Congratulations!

White Soccer comes out on top against Eagle Hill!

White soccer faced off against Eagle Hill Southport on a cool, breezy November afternoon. With the season winding down, the team was looking to continue their winning ways and also extend their undefeated season.   The game began with strong pressure from Unquowa, but the Eagle Hill defense stood tough and kept Unquowa off the board till late in the first half.  Seventh grader, Elizabeth struck two quick goals and gave Unquowa a 2-0 advantage at the half.

The second half was led by strong defense and a late tally by eighth grader Bailey to give Unquowa a 3-0 lead.  The defense was so strong in the second half that Eagle Hill was held without a shot.  Strong goalkeeping by seventh grader, Andrew led to another Unquowa shutout.  The final score was 3-0.  The team improved their record to 4-0-2 and have two games remaining on the season.  Come out and cheer them on!

White Soccer posts another victory!

The white soccer team continued their winning ways with a victory over a very tough Montessori team.   Looking to capitalize on their previous victory, the squad came out with strong pressure throughout the first half of the game.  The first goal for Unquowa came off a corner kick by eighth grader Charlie that was knocked in by a Montessori player for an unassisted goal.   Defense, led by several players, kept Montessori off the board and the score was 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, the team again continued with their intense pressure keeping the ball on the offensive half for most of the second half.  Late in the second half, eighth grader Charlie lined up another corner kick that deflected off a Montessori player and gave Unquowa  a 2-0 advantage which was the final score.   Outstanding work in the goal by eighth grader Bailey proved to be the difference in this game.  She had several diving saves in the shutout!  The team improved their record to 3-0-2 and are looking forward to their next game at Eagle Hill on Monday.
